Japanese Festival

On Labor Day we went to the Japanese Festival at the Botanical Gardens. It was a fantastic family day. Eli did a great job rolling around in his stroller in the sunshine and Dan and I got to see the vendors and displays. The best part of the day was a Japanese cooking class we took. In an hour and a half we learned how to cook 9 Japanese recipes and got to try a bite of each of the dishes. Since then we have made two of the dishes and have had a lot of fun doing it!

As we were getting ready to leave we took a few shots of Eli in the garden. I love how his red outfit pops off the green grass!

The Mud Pit

Sometime in July Dan convinced me it would be a good idea to build a patio in our back yard off our deck. So one day, he and I went out and started moving stones around and digging in the dirt. Then it got really HOT, as it tends to do in July. Now a couple of months later, we still have a mud pit in our backyard, but Dan has made some progress. The mud pit now has a nice retaining wall around it. The next steps include putting down rock and sand and then adding the pavers. We are hopeful that it will be complete by the end of fall.
